If J.K. Rowling created Harry Potter today she may have skipped the humiliating cycle of twelve rejections and self-published The Philosopher’s Stone. Many authors are making that decision and we can no longer rely on publishing houses and bookstores to bring us the best in children’s literature.
Kid’s Book Weekly was created to connect great young readers with the best self-published books. Unlike many review sites there will be no star rating and no negative reviews. If I can’t wholeheartedly recommend a book, I won’t review it.
Parents, teachers and librarians are well aware of the struggle to find books for kids who read well above or below their grade level. Independent publishers are not hemmed in by market concerns and are free to create wonderfully complex books with themes appropriate to a third grader or easy to read books featuring middle school students.
